Today I’m so excited to share with you this room tour of a small but stylish ensuite. Owners, Ang and Chas, have done a great job to create a beautiful but functional ensuite in a compact space. Let’s take a look.
The ensuite and adjacent walk in closet were created in a space that was originally a large covered in verandah on the side of their Queenslander house. They are now directly off the bedroom and complete the master suite.
You can see the original timber floor boards, VJ walls and sloping roof. Ang and Chas built a partition wall to separate this part of the room from the rest of the space and create the ensuite.
Even though it was a small space Ang managed to fit in a double vanity. By choosing a wall hung vanity she kept the floor area open which stops the vanity from making the room look smaller. All the tapware and sinks are from Reece.
Opposite the vanity is the shower and toilet. Ang used white gloss subway tiles that are 300mm x 100mm. The grout colour is called Majella. Ang chose this grout colour as she knew she didn’t want white grout but it had to be the right colour grey grout. Too light and there’s not enough contrast. Too dark and the grout can look too dark and dirty.
There are his and her shower niches in the shower. How gorgeous are the marble herringbone tiles in the shower niches? All the tiles are from Edge Tiles in Capalaba.
A row of hooks run along the VJ wall to hold pretty grey patterned towels from Adairs.
The large round mirrors hung over the vanity really make a statement. Ang managed to buy these on sale from Adairs.
Instead of using wall sconces, Ang chose ceiling hung pendant lights from Beacon Lighting and hung them directly over the sink. The timber detail adds warmth to room.
What a beautiful ensuite Ang and Chas have created in a small space. I’m so thankful that they allowed me to share their gorgeous ensuite with you. What do you think? They’ve done a great job haven’t they? I love seeing real rooms that people have created by themselves.

Hi. This looks gorgeous! Do you know the space dimensions? We are looking at an older house and want to put in an ensuite. There’s not much space to steal to though for an ensuite so I’d love to know how much space this took. Thanks heaps
Many thanks again Kylie, and also to Ang and Chas for sharing. Love this bathroom and in 5 minutes have solved three outstanding issues for our coming ensuite – amazing.
Hi Jo. I’m not exactly sure, but for memory it was less than 3 metres wide at the vanity x 2.something metres from the vanity to the shower. It was tight but it certainly didn’t feel squeezed in because of the way they designed it. It’s amazing what you can do with a small space.
So glad it helped Tina. I think Ang & Chas did an amazing job in such a tight space. All their friends think they should go on The Block.
Thank you
