Today’s room tour is a real treat. This classic coastal living room in Brisbane’s inner east has been carefully and thoughtfully planned to create a living space that can function as both formal entertaining and relaxed family living.
The house belongs to Clare, her husband and their two young children. The house was purpose built to Clare’s design by Luke from Haimes Homes in 2015. Clare knew what sort of space she wanted to create, and saved lots of images to Pinterest so she could show her builder exactly what she was after.
The room is part of the open plan kitchen and dining area that flows out to the rear entertaining deck and pool.
Clare has been a long time fan of classic coastal decorating and has collected many design books that showcase this style. A copy of Island Life sits in a white basket from Alfresco Emporium on the coffee table.
The wall of cabinetry was custom-built. Clare designed it so the television can be concealed behind doors making the fireplace the focal point of the room. Clare believes conversation should be the focus of family gatherings and not the television. The large blue piece of coral was a special birthday present.
The house has beautiful wide wooden floorboards throughout. Clare softened the stairs with a Dash & Albert runner which she had professionally installed by a carpet layer. She used runners for the stairs and a rug cut down to size on the landing.
I personally love Clare’s bar cart. It’s a vintage piece that belonged to her father, and contrasts perfectly with the rest of the room.
The cushions on the sofa are all Clare’s own designs that she sells in her business Seacova. They are beautifully made and feature embroidered designs. Clare had the sofa custom made in Brisbane, and has laid a throw rug from Pottery Barn over the top.
Some pretty flowers in a Laura Ashley jug sit next to a blue and white striped wing back chair available from Seacova.
