It’s Christmas time and that often means visitors coming to stay. I have some of my family staying with me this Christmas. Here are some of my tips to preparing the guest bedroom to create a welcoming space for your visitors.
Fresh Bed Linen
I always make the bed up with freshly washed sheets. They feel crisp and clean, and they smell nice. I’ve added a flat sheet for the warm weather and a bedspread if they get cold (highly unlikely in Brisbane’s summer).
I keep the bed side tables pretty simple and just include things that my guests might like – lamps for reading, a clock, tissues, magazines/books and some flowers.
The day or two before my gusts arrive I swing open the French doors to let in some fresh air. The doors have white shutters on them to control light and privacy. The white voile curtains soften the window without blocking it.
Try to make some space in the wardrobe so your guests can hang up some of their clothes. My spare wardrobe is full of cushions!!!
The timber bench seat at the end of the room provides extra seating. It’s also a good surface for putting bags or suitcases on.
I keep the artwork in the guest bedroom pretty neutral. I have some framed vintage prints of Rome and a couple of botanical prints.
Any extra storage you can have will be of benefit to both you and your guests. I keep spare pillows and bed quilts inside this white bench seat that my father made me. I also have a basket with an extra blanket beside a little vintage step ladder.
