When you are decorating your house on a budget it is inevitable that you may end up paying a visit to that little Nordic boutique known as IKEA. Their slip covered sofas and chairs are affordable and have the benefit of a truly removable cover that can be machine washed. Whist IKEA sell a range of different coloured and patterned slipcovers for their furniture, the choice is limited. There are a number of companies who spotted this gap in the market, and now offer us a much wider range of slip covers to choose from.
Let’s take one of IKEA’s classic pieces – the EKTORP armchair.
Here are some of the covers you can chose from.
Comfort Works are a Melbourne based company that makes custom slipcovers for Ikea chairs and sofas. They have a great range of fabrics to choose from. Prices are in Australian dollars and delivery takes 2-3 weeks. We love their stripe collection including Elizabeth (pictured above) and Oxford, Somerset and Brighton.
Bemz are a Swedish company that also makes a range of covers to suit IKEA chairs. They have a great range of fabrics including Marimekko Unikko (above) and Designers Guild fabric Coconut Grove (pictured below). You can choose from Regular fit covers or Loose Country fit.
Cover Couch are an British company. Pictured is their East Coast Denim cover. When we looked they were offering free shipping to Australia.
Lastly, Knesting is a US company. Currently they do not ship outside the US/Canada, so you would have to use a third party freight forwarder to have the covers delivered to Australia, but if chevron stripe is your thing, it may well be worth it.
Whilst the cost of these custom slip covers is more than the standard IKEA covers, it’s still a great option that saves you attempting to make the covers yourself.
