Take the humble IKEA Tarva drawers. Made of solid wood they are a plain and simple set of drawers, but with a little inspiration and a dose of DIY decorating, you can turn them into something special.
You could simply stain the timber and add brass drawer pulls like Miriam Schneider of Snail Mail Shop did in her San Francisco home featured in Rue magazine.
This Tarva hack was completed by The Lilypad Cottage. She added moulding to the edges of the drawers, changed the handles and replaced the legs with castors. She has a detailed how to on her blog.
Dear Lillie blog did a similar makeover but with a washed paint finish and brass drawer pulls.
This rustic industrial style makeover was done by Style at Home magazine’s style and food editor Tara Ballantyne. She painted the drawers, stencilled numbers on and added castors to the bottom.
For the handy DIYer, you could try converting a Tarva dresser to a home office station like Diane from In My Own Style blog did. It is quite an amazing transformation. A detailed how to can be found on her blog.
Finally, this project also from Style & Home magazine is perfect for a little girls room. Shades of pink paint and pretty glass knobs make the perfect combination. Make these drawers super pretty by lining them with wallpaper or pretty paper.
So there you have it, some beautiful IKEA Tarva makeovers to inspire your own makeover. If you’ve made over a piece of IKEA furniture, we’d love to see it.
