I have been guilty of putting the same bed linen back on my bed every week for the past couple of years. Bad habit I know. So I decided to look for some new classic Hamptons bed linen to suit my style. I wanted peaceful, classic and calm. I think I found the perfect bed linen.
It’s called the Jenny McLean La Via Quilt Cover Set from Manchester Madness. I ordered the queen size quilt cover in Sea foam trim which is the most beautiful soft blue colour.
The quilt cover has a flanged trim across the top and down each side with a plain white button up closure across the bottom. The pillow cases also have the pale blue flange around all four sides.
If I’m using a predominantly white quilt cover, I like to use a coloured or patterned sheet set to add contrast. So I also ordered the Jenny McLean La Via Sheet Set in Seafoam from Manchester Madness. The quilt cover only has the Sea foam as a trim. So by adding the sheet sheet in Sea foam you get more blue onto the bed.
The sheet set comprises a flat sheet, fitted sheet and two standard pillowcases which has a few features that I love:
- It’s made from Egyptian Cotton – which means they have been woven from a high quality cotton. A long fibre means stronger and softer cotton.
- It’s 400 thread count I used to be a homewares buyer for a large international store, so I could go into detail about weaving patterns and percale. But you’d probably say what are you talking about? So what I will say is that 400 thread count means the sheets are tightly woven and feel silky smooth.
- It has an elasticised 40cm depth – which means it fits over large pillow top mattresses like the one on my bed. If you have a deep mattress – don’t buy anything less than 40cm (you have been warned).
To complete the look, I added a bedspread across the bottom and some Euro pillow across the top that I already owned. The best way to give your bed a layered look is to ….. well, add layers.
The other reason for the bedspread and Euro’s in a beige/griege colour is to link the bed to the curtains. If you have curtains near your bed, they need to be friends. Well in fact, they need to be sisters. Related but not the same. By adding the bedspread and Euro’s I’m linking the curtains to the bed so they look like they belong, without making them look to matchy, matchy.
The quilt cover still works without the beige, but because I have the beige curtains I prefer to repeat that colour in the bed area. Designer tip there.
I truly believe, if you want a good night’s sleep, you need to create a beautiful and comfortable environment to go to sleep in. That means get rid of all the clutter in your bedroom. Dress your bed with beautiful and comfortable bed linen, and dress and layer your bed to create an appealing setting.
One thing you won’t see when you go to look at this bed linen on the website is that the original price for the Quilt cover and sheet set was $179.95 each, but you’ll find it for less that half that amount where I found it! I love a good quality bargain!
While I was photographing this bed linen for you, I picked some small but delicate roses from my garden to use in the photos. Look at the gorgeous petals that have fallen from the rose heads. It’s those simple pleasures that you need to enjoy everyday.
