Layering
Layer your table with a table cloth, table runner or place mats. Alternatively you can use a pretty piece of fabric with a basic hem stitch to style your table.
If you prefer a table runner you can fold your table cloth in half and don’t forget to finish off with a pretty napkin.

Setting
Stack your plates for each setting. From largest piece to smallest. Start with a dinner plate, smaller plate and a small dessert bowl for height.

Fresh Flowers
Its no secret, fresh flowers or foliage on your table setting will make it look beautiful. In winter I like to use warmer and stronger colours on the table. I usually start at the florist and see what flowers are in season. Adding green leaves from the garden on a white table cloth can look amazing. I love this look. If you can’t find the flowers you’re looking for try a row of colourful mini cyclamens down the middle of your table. You can buy them in a small punnet of six from your local nursery. They are the perfect size to pop in decorative glass.

Menu
Print a copy of the menu and place it on your table setting. Experiment with different fonts and sizes. Finish off with a bow.

Decor
Add a personal touch to your setting with a named place setting or a small gift for your guests. Wrap with pretty paper to compliment your table setting. Place your table gift in front of your place setting or pop it in the bowl or on the small plate.
Winter is the perfect time to stay indoors, light the fire and host a small dinner party. Do you have a favourite meal you like to prepare in winter for your guests?
