Happy birthday to us.  I can’t believe DIY Decorator is now three years old.  A lot has changed since we began…….

Shoe cupcakes

These are shoe cupcakes that I made for my daughter’s birthday a couple of years ago.  They’re so cute!

The Website

Our website has re-invented itself at least one or twice a year since we started.  I don’t even have a screenshot of how it looked back then, but some of you may remember this.

The Directory

We started with a directory of 1,800 shops in Australia.  Being nice, we offered free directory listings.  We were soon inundated with spam and dodgy businesses that we would never recommend that you buy from.  Now I just have one page of My Go To Shops.  These are shops I know and love.  I have either visited them, bought things from them, or can truly say I would recommend them.

The Blog Posts

We have learnt a lot about how to write a blog post.  From thinking of more creative headings, better images and graphics, more original images and more useful and practical information.

Finding Our Style

Whilst we don’t limit our posts to any one particular style, the posts you’ll see here on DIY Decorator, are definitely a classic style.   Whether that’s Traditional, Coastal, Tropical, Hamptons inspired, French, English, Modern Farmhouse, British Colonial/Island Style, Classic Modern or just relaxed Aussie style, we have a certain look.

You can’t be all things to everyone.  Instead we have tried to appeal to a wider audience, whilst still being true to our love of classic style.

We Love Being Part of A Community

One of the best things about being an Interiors blogger is being part of an amazing community of people.  On a daily basis, I get to interact with the most amazing group of people on Facebook, Instagram, and here on the blog.  I regularly get emails asking me for help or ideas.  I LOVE hearing from you.

We’ve Grown

In July 2014, 9 months after starting DIY Decorator, we created a Media Kit for working with brands.  Oh my!  We know we were little but we were thinking BIG.

Oh how things have changed!  If you want to work with us, you can go here for our latest Media Kit.

On a Sad Note

On a sad note, only a few weeks ago, Sam my co-founder of DIY Decorator, decided to leave.  It’s okay.  We are still great friends.  She just needed to finish her interior design course, spend more time with her family, and generally just have less stress in her life.  She has started a small blog focussing on interiors on the Mornington Peninsula and Melbourne where she is from.

Thank YOU

I just wanted to say a BIG thank you to YOU.

You are what keeps me going.  What makes me create a free eBook like the one you will get if you sign up to our weekly newsletter.  This book contains 25 decorating ideas, all with original photography.

Free eBook

It was your comments and emails about not knowing where to start, or exactly what your style as, that lead me to create a free eCourse on Finding Your Decorating Style.

I am so grateful for everything that I have learnt over the last 3 years and all of you that I have met in person or online.  Here’s to another year!
