Take a look at this botanical powder room that is a monochromatic feast for the eyes.  A Toowoomba couple transform a cream and burgundy powder room into a botanical inspired black and white masterpiece.

This stunning powder room was created by Robyn and Tim in their Toowoomba home on the Darling Downs.  When they bought the property about 5 years ago, the house was 10 years old and in need of refurbishing.  All the walls were painted yellow, with cream/beige floor tiles and burgundy everywhere including the bathroom vanity.

After ripping out the old vanity, the walls were tiled with white bevel edge subway tiles to just above the height of the sink.  For the upper part of the wall Robyn chose a black and white botanical wallpaper called Gaston Y Daniela that she bought through a local Toowoomba interior designer, Beadles Interiors Toowoomba.  Once the wallpaper was up, she added the narrow black quad tile which provides contrast and helps to frame the wallpaper.

Robyn bought the new vanity unit from Reece.  The open legs help to keep the space feeling open and the bar holds hand towels.

The ornate black mirror from Harold’s Finishing Touches works beautifully with the wallpaper. The brushed metal wall sconces were from One World Collection.

DIY wallpaper artwork

Here’s a clever DIY decor tip – Robyn framed left over pieces of wallpaper in simple black IKEA frames and hung them on the wall opposite the vanity.

The timber floors add warmth and character to the room.  Now here’s something you wouldn’t guess.  The floor is from Bunnings.  Yep.

Ripping up old floor tiles and laying timber is an expensive job and requires removing the skirting boards or adding a quad edging all round the room.  Robyn and Tim employed a contractor to grind back the existing floor tiles to a smooth surface, then laid the vinyl timber flooring on top.  The vinyl strips are self adhesive.  You just cut them to size, peel the backing off and stick them to the floor.  They look fantastic and have stood up well since they laid them.

I think you’ll agree that this is a simply stunning powder room.  Thank you to Tim and Robyn for allowing us to share this room with you.
