Today, I am excited to share with you, the beautiful Chatham Beach House located on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. Inspired by the small American seaside village of Chatham at the elbow of Cape Cod, this family home brings a touch of Hamptons charm to the Australian coast.
The house belongs to Victoria and her family who are based in Brisbane. They had rented a dog friendly home for a holiday in Mudjimba and immediately fell in love with the relaxed village feel of the area. One rainy day Victoria and her husband decided to view a house that was for sale in the street. A few days later they had bought it and Victoria set about planning how to transform a 12 year old modern builder’s home with no heart into a warm family friendly home.
Victoria likes to buy pieces that have a story to them, and mixes vintage and one-off pieces with main store bought items. The rustic dining table is from Michael Allen Antiques.
The Library bookcase
Victoria has always lived in Queenslander colonial homes with high ceilings, so after she purchased the beautiful timber bookcase from European Design, she had a moment of panic that it wouldn’t actually fit under the lower ceiling of a modern house. She jokes that the installer almost lost a finger getting the library in place, but all was good in the end.
Finishing Touches
What I love about Chatham Beach House is the way Victoria has used lots of decorative finishing touches that make the house feel like a home and not just a holiday rental.
There are plenty of coastal and nautical themed pieces in Chatham Beach House but Victoria has put it together in a unique quirky way so it doesn’t look like your typical beach decor. The Oars with Chatham written on them are from Oars Galore, and the Chatham sign was a lucky find in a little shop in Victoria.
Plenty of Room
The house sleeps 8 people and can easily accommodate two families sharing together. There are two master bedrooms with ensuites at one end of the house and a twin room and bunk room at the other end of the house with it’s own bathroom. I love this nautical bunk room for the kids.
Lap Up the Pool
The house features a 15 metre lap pool. Great for exercise or even floating around on a giant swan. The thatched hut at the end is a cool place to relax while the kids swim.
Pet Friendly
One of the great things about this house is that it’s pet friendly. As a dog lover herself, Victoria wanted guests at the house to be able to bring their beloved pets on holiday with them. Her dogs Daisy & Bella just love going to the beach.
